Application Procedures

Note:   At UCSF, our Nursing programs are designed for graduate-level (M.S., Ph.D.) students; we do not offer Bachelor's/B.S./B.S.N. programs. If you do not yet hold a bachelor's degree and are not now a registered nurse, either (1) complete bachelors work in another field and come to the UCSF Masters Entry Program for pre-licensure nursing and graduate specialty work at the Masters level, or (2) earn a bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) and come to UCSF for graduate specialty work at the Masters level. If you are a nurse, but do not yet have a bachelor's degree, complete your BSN and then come to the UCSF Masters Program. For more information, see:
Prospective Students
Holiday Closures:
School of Nursing offices are closed between Dec. 21 and January 2.

Beginning in the summer of 2007, UCSF School of Nursing is moving to a web-based on-line system for collecting applications. Prospective Masters and Doctoral students will no longer be required to submit paper packets of application forms; paper forms are no longer availalble. Also, test scores (e.g., GRE, TOEFL) are now transmitted directly from the Educational Testing Service. During the open period (see table below) You may return ("log in") to your on-line application as many times as you need to, in order to assure that your entries are complete and correct prior to screening. Make sure your applications are complete and correct before you "lock" (finalize) your pages for screening.

Masters and Doctoral Applications

The Schedule Table (below) indicates when application screens become available for each year's class. By policy, the school will admit new students to these programs to begin their coursework in the Fall Quarter (September) only. It becomes possible to open new applications in July of each year, although the very first edition of the On-Line Masters and Doctoral Applications (for Fall 2008 entry) became available in September 2007.

Applications to the
Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN)

MEPN 2008 applicants were the first class to use the on-line (web) application system, which became available July 9 through October 1, 2007.

For the MEPN class beginning classwork in June 2009, application screens will become available during the period beginning July 2008 and ending October 1, 2008.

Application Schedule by Program

Note that all applications are now submitted using on-line (web) screens; downloaded and/or mailed "packet-format" application bundles are no longer offered. The following table summarizes your application options:
