The ACHIN specialty provides students a foundation for:
- Planning and evaluating community/public health programs;
- Learning about international health, population-level care, health promotion, grant writing, teaching/learning strategies, health care systems, public policy, and leadership;
- Addressing health disparities of vulnerable and diverse populations;
- Practicing and consulting in multicultural and international settings; and
- Developing a specialization in HIV/AIDS as a community health nurse.
- The focus of clinical experiences is on advanced nursing practice in a variety of community/public health private and governmental agencies in local, national, and international settings.
Certification
Graduates from the ACHIN Program are
eligible for Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) titling in the State of California
and are eligible to take the examination for certification as a
CNS in Community Health Nursing, a national certification that is
offered jointly by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
in collaboration with the American Public Health Association,
Public Health Nursing Section.
