The Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) Nursing Specialty Area
focuses on the prevention and management of illnesses and injuries that
result from conditions in the workplace or community. OEH nurses design
programs and provide
clinical interventions to prevent and manage these disorders effectively.
Career Opportunities as an OEH Nurse
- working in new industries such as biotechnology or electronics, or traditional ones such as manufacturing;
- collaborating with multidisciplinary specialists to improve working conditions;
- managing an employee or OEH clinic onsite, in industry, or in the community;
- designing & implementing health promotion and injury prevention programs;
- identifying effective case management strategies to help injured workers return to work safely;
- consulting regarding job modifications that allow workers with disabilities to continue to work productively;
- developing occupational or environmental health policy;
- helping industry develop strong relationships with the community.
