The Department of Community Health Systems has five specialty areas in the masters program.
Each specialty area defines a course of study leading to the Master of Science degree.
Masters students complete the Masters Core Curriculum
and also complete specific course work relevant to each specialty area.
Specialty programs prepare the student for certification, as appropriate,
as either a clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner.
Some specialty areas include sub-specialty, option, or focus choices,
to meet individual student needs.
Caution: within the application process,
each Masters program applicant must choose a specialty area
from the available choices.
(MEPN applicants are also required to choose their specialty.)
Ordinarily, students are not permitted to transfer between
specialty areas once they have begun their Masters program.
Some students may also choose after enrollment to pursue a Minor
in addition to their selected specialty area.
