Application Procedures

Note:   At UCSF, our Nursing programs are designed for graduate-level (M.S., Ph.D.) students; we do not offer Bachelor's/B.S./B.S.N. programs. If you do not yet hold a bachelor's degree and are not now a registered nurse, either (1) complete bachelors work in another field and come to the UCSF Masters Entry Program for pre-licensure nursing and graduate specialty work at the Masters level, or (2) earn a bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) and come to UCSF for graduate specialty work at the Masters level. If you are a nurse, but do not yet have a bachelor's degree, complete your BSN and then come to the UCSF Masters Program. For more information, see:
Prospective Students
Holiday Closures:
School of Nursing offices are closed for up to eight days surrounding the Christmas and New Year's Holidays.

Beginning with the summer of 2007, UCSF School of Nursing has moved to a web-based (on-line) system for collecting applications. Prospective Masters and Doctoral students will no longer be required to submit paper packets of application forms; the paper forms are no longer available. Also, test scores (e.g., GRE, TOEFL) are now collected and transmitted directly from the Educational Testing Service.

During the open period for your program (see table below) you will create an account for your application on our web site using your personal email address. Once established, you may return ("log in") to your on-line application account as many times as you need to, in order to assure that your submissions are complete and correct prior to screening.

Your application information is collected electronically in web screens, including your educational and career history, and references (recommendations). Transcripts are collected (by mail) and attached to your UCSF application.

At deadlines (endings of the open periods) you will pay your application fee and "lock" (finalize) your pages for screening.

For classes enrolling in 2010 and 2011, the application fee is $70.00; except for International (Non-US) applicants the fee is $90.00 US Dollars. Note that fees are subject to change without notice.

Masters and Doctoral Applications

The Schedule Table (below) indicates when application screens become available for each year's class.

Caution:  dates furnished below are subject to change.

By policy, the school will admit new students to these programs to begin their coursework in the Fall Quarter (September) only. It becomes possible to open new applications in June/July of each year.

Applications to the
Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN)

For the MEPN class beginning classwork in June 2010, on-line (web) application screens will become available during the period beginning June 2009 and ending September 1, 2009.

Application Schedule by Program

Note that all applications are now submitted using on-line (web) screens; downloaded and/or mailed "packet-format" application bundles are no longer offered. Do not delay completing your on-line application pages and uploads until the very last days before your deadline; internet services at various locations can become unreliable or unavailable without notice.
