All School of Nursing students will receive "Update" - a monthly student newsletter [Update] - with listings of grants, scholarships and fellowships.
There are also workshops and seminars held to guide students on how to apply for funding.
One-on-one counseling is available by appointment (or quick drop-in questions) with the Student Funding Coordinator in the Nursing Student Affairs Office (School of Nursing Bldg., Room #N·319X). UCSF Student Financial Aid Services (SFA, http://finaid.ucsf.edu) offers drop-in or scheduled appointments for accepted students; the SFA office is in the west tower of the Millberry Union building at 500 Parnassus Ave., #MU-201W.
Annually (on a Saturday in May), the School of Nursing has offered a "Money for School" seminar. This event for incoming MS and PhD students is scheduled well before their first (fall quarter) enrollment.
"Money for School" [MFS web site] covers a number of important funding topics. The heart of this program is the wisdom shared by and from current students, advisors from SFA, and School administrators (including the Dean and the Associate Dean of Research).
Accepted students will automatically receive information on this program. Students seriously considering UCSF School of Nursing should plan to attend this seminar.
Each fall, the Student Funding Coordinator (website) meets with international students as a group to address funding issues unique to students from other countries.
During screening, MEPN semi-finalists receive advance financial advising in the month of January prior to final admission to the program. Additional advising is offered during the first year as a MEPN student.
Fees. This term refers to your resident or California in-state costs for attending graduate school.
In-state or Resident Fees include University Registration Fee; Educational Fee; and contributions to the Student Union [CAS], Graduate Student Association [GSA], Nursing Student Council [NSC], Student Health Services [SHS-Health Insurance], and Professional School Fee. Note: only MS students pay the Professional School fee, for clinical instruction.
Non-Resident Tuition is paid by students who are not California residents. This amount is charged to all international students and those US nationals and permanent residents entering from out of state who have not yet established their California residency. (As a public university, UC receives substantial financial support from California's taxpayers through the state government.)
International Students: When PhD students advance to candidacy, non-resident tuition is reduced by 75%.
Filing Fee Status. Students who have completed all requirements for the degree (with the exception of filing the dissertation or thesis or taking the comprehensive examination), may apply for filing fee status in lieu of registration. This can be done only one time. The filing fee is one half the University registration fee.
Fees are subject to change and have changed frequently in recent years. The Registrar's Office maintains a tabulation of current fees (by degree program and residency status) at http://registrar.ucsf.edu/registration/fees/nursing on their web site.
To inform students of typical or average local living costs, the UCSF Financial Aid Office [web site] creates a annual student budget [budget page], by soliciting information from students combined with market studies of the San Francisco Bay Area. This document also serves as the basis for determining the amounts of financial aid awards and packages.
