Dear Faculty, Staff, and Friends of UCSF School of Nursing,
![]() |
Many of you know that on December 31, 2009, Sally H. Rankin, R.N., Ph.D., F.A.A.N., will complete her term as Chair of the UCSF School of Nursing Department of Family Health Care Nursing, a position she has held since 2004.
I am very pleased to announce that on January 1, 2010, Sally will assume the role of the Associate Dean for International Programs.
In addition, she has agreed to begin serving immediately as the Director of the UCSF WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Clinical Training in Nursing, a position vacated by Dr. Bill Holzemer, who recently left UCSF to become Dean of the Rutgers University College of Nursing.
Dr. Rankin is more than qualified to assume a leadership position that focuses on international health. She has been involved in international health as a nursing professor for the past two decades, teaching, consulting, and conducting research in Australia, Japan, and many countries in Europe. Her most recent international work is in Malawi in Central Africa, where she has been conducting a NIH-funded research study in HIV prevention and care and where she plans to continue to conduct her research.
Besides her busy international interests, here at home Professor Rankin is well-respected in her relationships with students and colleagues. She has been nominated three times for the UCSF Graduate Student Association Faculty Mentorship Award, and is the recipient of the Nursing Doctoral Students 2004 Mentor of the Year Award. She has given extraordinary service to the School of Nursing and to UCSF, including serving as the Chair of the Centennial Celebration of Nursing at UCSF in 2007.
Please join me in congratulating and thanking Sally for accepting this challenging position.
Sincerely,
Dean Kathy Dracup
