Highly Recommended. The government web site at http://www.511.org provides personalized trip planning for all transit users in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The 511.org site is also useful for determine the best methods to reach UCSF Laurel Heights (at 3333 California St. SF 94118) or to reach other UCSF sites (besides the Parnassus Avenue campus).
Take the AC Transit bus to the Transbay Transit Terminal located at First and Mission streets in downtown San Francisco.
From there, take the No. 6-Parnassus bus to the campus; or walk one block north to Market Street, enter the underground Muni Metro/BART Montgomery Street station, and take the N·Judah Muni Metro to the campus. (Muni Metro is the city's “light rail” streetcar system and operates both at and beneath street level.)
Take Bay Area Rapid Transit BART trains to the Civic Center station. Exit the BART area within the station and transfer to the Muni Metro level and take the N·Judah Muni Metro streetcar/train to UCSF. Or, exit the Civic Center station entirely and catch the No. 6-Parnassus bus at street level on Market Street. Ride the bus west from Market Street to the UCSF stop on Parnassus Avenue.
Ferries. Walk three blocks from the Ferry Building to the Embarcadero station (underground) beneath Market Street. Take the N·Judah Muni Metro streetcar to the UCSF Parnassus campus.
Take Golden Gate Transit bus to the Transbay Terminal. Walk one block to Market Street. Enter the Muni Metro/BART Montgomery Street station and take the N·Judah Muni Metro to the campus.
Take CalTrain commuter trains to the San Francisco station at Townsend St., from there, transfer to the N·Judah Muni Metro streetcar. Or, take SamTrans bus to 8th and Mission streets. Walk one block to Market Street and take the No. 6-Parnassus bus, or enter the Muni Metro/BART Civic Center station and take the N·Judah Muni Metro.
Take the Bay Bridge (I-80) from Oakland to San Francisco. Pass by the Fremont St., Fifth St., and Ninth St. / Civic Center exit ramps, and then take the US·101 North / Golden Gate Bridge [Exit 1B] ramp.

Then stay to the left and follow the signs for the Fell Street Exit. After the freeway ends (crossing Market Street), go straight ahead on Octavia Blvd. for four blocks and turn left on to Fell Street westbound.
Continue west on Fell Street towards Golden Gate Park. Move into the left hand lanes on Fell Street and bear left as you enter the park (crossing Stanyan Street). The route winds past Kezar Stadium and then becomes Lincoln Way westbound, with the park now on your right-hand side north of Lincoln Way.
Turn left from Lincoln at either 4th Avenue or 7th Avenue and then turn left onto Irving Street (eastbound). The entrance to the public parking garage is on Irving Street at the intersection with Second Avenue.
Inside the garage, please take note of your parking garage level and also the location of your parking space (it's a big garage!). Then take the elevators all the way up and make your way out to the curb on Parnassus Avenue.
Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, move toward the right-hand lanes; take the 19th Ave / SR·1 exit immediately after the toll plaza. After the MacArthur Tunnel, Route 1 becomes Park Presidio Boulevard. Stay in the right lanes as you cross through Golden Gate Park.
Leaving the park, SR·1 becomes 19th Avenue. Continue south on 19th Avenue for three blocks beyond the park, and then make three consecutive right turns: right on Kirkham St., right again on 20th Avenue, and then right (eastbound) on Judah Street.
Follow Judah Street sixteen blocks east to UCSF (Judah Street is renamed as Parnassus Avenue crossing the intersection at Fifth Avenue). The entrance to the public parking garage is on the left at 500 Parnassus, the parking levels are behind and underneath the Millberry Union Building (look for the garage entrance ramp near the glass-faced clock tower.)
Inside the garage, please take note of your parking garage level and also the location of your parking space (it's a big garage!). Then take the elevators all the way up and make your way out to the curb on Parnassus Avenue.
Take the Bayshore Freeway (US·101) northbound towards San Francisco. After entering the city and passing I-280 move into the left-hand lane.

Approaching downtown, look for the left-side exit ramp marked for US·101 North / Golden Gate Br. (and Ninth St. Civic Ctr.), also marked Exit 433C. This ramp has two lanes, stay in the left side lane and follow the left branch for US·101 North / Golden Gate Bridge.
Next, stay to the left (pass the Mission/Duboce exit ramp) and follow the signs for the Fell Street exit. After the freeway ends (crossing Market Street), go straight ahead on Octavia Blvd. for four blocks and turn left on to Fell Street westbound.
Continue west on Fell Street towards Golden Gate Park. Move into the left hand lanes on Fell Street and bear left as you enter the park (crossing Stanyan Street). Route 1 northbound becomes 19th Avenue after entering the City and County of San Francisco. Continue past ParkMerced, San Francisco State University (SFSU), and the Stonestown mall. Stay on northbound 19th Avenue past Sloat Blvd. and the distinctive Scottish Rite Temple.
The next group of cross-streets is encountered in reversed alphabetical order; continue northbound on 19th Avenue past Vicente, Ulloa, Taraval, Santiago, Rivera, Quintara, Pacheco, Ortega, Noriega, Moraga, Lawton, and Kirham. Finally, turn right (eastbound) on Judah Street.
