Needed Immediately. The Skills Lab TA will work effectively with program faculty and staff to ensure efficient organization and operation of the skills lab; assist faculty in the scheduling of laboratory instruction as well as mid-term and final exams.
In addition, scheduling of models for Breast/GU exams as directed; scheduling independent study opportunities as requested; coordinate scheduling of laboratory for non-class periods to provide individual/group skills practice sessions for students; collaborate with faculty regarding student utilization of the laboratory; coordination of supply check out as needed by students; be a resource for all faculty, staff and students in regard to access to the lab and equipment available for skills lab use.
Additionally, the position includes coordinating the ordering of equipment and supplies, maintaining inventory, including stockroom supplies and equipment; preparing laboratory supplies weekly in Fall Quarter prior to assigned lab time, breaking down lab equipment and securing lab items after instruction, and proper labeling and disposal of waste; maintaining instrumentation and ensuring timely instrument repairs and servicing; other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have licensure as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of experience in nursing practice; strong communication, time management, interpersonal and organization skills; ability to set priorities with high attention to detail; demonstrated ability to work individually and as a member of a team; honesty; integrity; and commitment to maintain high professional standards.
Family Theory is a core class for master's students in five different specialties. It provides foundational instruction in theory development in general and family theory in particular.
In addition, students learn basic family systems interventions that are relevant to diverse practice settings. With the exception of the first class, the course is taught completely on-line (WebCT) and uses a variety of teaching strategies including film excerpts, discussion postings, study questions, family exemplars (short paper), quizzes, and a short, final scholarly paper that synthesizes research and analyzes a family theory.
Preparations for the class will begin in August and include updating course materials and information at the website.

The position of Teaching Assistant (TA) is a unique opportunity for student to develop teaching and learning technology knowledge and skills by working closely with the S/Nrsg. Education Technologist.

This person will be involved in all facets of patient recruitment for an NIH-funded study.
Recruitment duties will include telephoning prospective volunteers, follow-up phone calls to those who inquire about the study, describing the study protocol to people with COPD, assisting the prospective volunteers in filling out the online screening tool, visiting clinics and community resources like ALA Better Breathers, Health Centers, and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs to meet potential subjects and describe the study.
She/he will follow up patients who have expressed interest in the research study, guide them through the screening process, and evaluate their eligibility for the study protocol and prepare folders for new patients.
Other specific recruitment strategies will be to maintain recruitment materials in ambulatory care clinics, provide patient information sheets and recruitment materials to MD offices and staff a table at patient education fairs and workshops.
This person will also manage both written and phone communication with nurses and physicians related to recruitment and screening and progress of the patient through the study, e.g., sending out letters to MD offices on schedule and prior to visits, calling the MD offices to get approval for enrollment, preparing the reservation forms, and tracking paperwork.
Another important function of this person will be to coordinate outcome testing sessions at UCSF GCRC/CTSI including assembling documentation, scheduling visits and carrying out the consent process.
In addition, if qualifications and time allow, the person will assist with data management including entering data into files and cleaning data.
If background and expertise of the individual are sufficient and appropriate this position could also include providing one home visit, biweekly telephone calls, and coordinating monthly health education sessions for the attention control group.
Research Assistant: Dyspnea Self-Management: Internet or Face-to-Face
This person will be involved in the collection of outcome data for our NIH funded study, “Dyspnea Management: Internet or Face-to-Face.” He/She will be assisting the RN’s and exercise physiologists in the CTSI (GCRC) with the conduct of the incremental treadmill tests, spirometry, 6 minute walks, and administration of online surveys. Functions will also include increasing recruitment of patients with COPD for the study including; telephoning patients, visiting clinics, visiting community resources like Better Breathers, Health Centers, and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs, and managing written and phone communication with nurses and physicians related to recruitment and screening. If time allows, the person will also assist with data management including entering data into files and cleaning data.
College degree is preferred; RN is preferred, but not required; salary negotiable

RA Position - ESL Programs
Assist with identifying resources and comparing/contrasting options for English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs in the immediate area (San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley).
Applicant must have the ability to travel to locations in the East Bay and San Francisco.
Conduct focus groups of international students, ESL students, and faculty advisors (MS & PhD) in the School of Nursing.
Meet and interview key principals of each ESL program; collect and analyze data; determine recommendations based on findings.
Work Effort: 10 - 15 hours per week during the Spring Quarter, with one quarter fee remission.

Dyspnea, SPSS analysis
The Dyspnea Lab needs a summer RA to work on data management and analysis. We need someone who is fluent with SPSS to transfer Excel files into SPSS and then analyze the data for our recently completed, RWJ study of an internet-based dyspnea self-management program.

Vascular Insufficiency - Goals for
Optimal Risk Reduction: VIGOR2
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be involved in a clinical translational multidisciplinary study to not only learn about the inner workings of research but also to learn some valuable clinical skills to manage multiple chronic diseases in an elderly population.
Project Description: This randomized clinical trial examines the efficacy of an 24 month tailored intensive nurse case management approach for multiple cardiovascular risk factor reduction to improve functional capacity, quality of life and endothelial function in patients with peripheral arterial disease. This is a clinical-translational multidisciplinary study and students can be involved in the development of recruitment strategies, intervention and various physiological measurements including exercise testing, body composition, nutritional, physical and behavioral assessment analyses. Students can also learn about chronic disease management and behavior change using behavioral strategies.
