N262A Research Methods is a core research course offered for over 160 M.S. students at UCSF School of Nursing in the winter quarter. This course includes both weekly lectures (8:00-10:00 a.m.) and optional seminars to discuss the content, and homework in small groups.
The TA is required to lead the Wed. seminar 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. each week, manage and update the CLE Moodle site for N262A, provide ongoing support and tutor students who need assistance to learn the required content. The TA works closely with Abbey Alkon, RN, PNP, PhD, Faculty-of-Record, to develop homework questions, exam questions, and discussion topics relevant to the course.

Two R.A. positions at 0.25 are available on a new P30 grant, entitled "Symptom Management Faculty Scholars Program."
Dr. Christine Miaskowski, Professor & Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, is the Principal Investigator.
This grant is intended to:
(1) prepare new faculty members with the knowledge and skills to develop and maintain a
program of research in symptom management in diverse populations, across the illness trajectory,
and in a variety of health care settings;
(2) prepare new faculty members with grantsmanship skills, including writing, conducting,
and administering a funded grant.
Job description: Initially, will assist new Assistant Professors recently hired within the SON with:
- the development of their research proposals
- literature searches
- grant preparation
- development of questionnaires
- preparation of Human Subjects applications
After pilot studies are funded, the research assistant will be assigned
to one or more of the Faculty Scholars to assist with:
- data collection
- data entry
- data management
Requirements: Must be a doctoral student in the SON.
Preferred: Experience writing grants, conducting literature searches, interfacing with IRBs, and implementation of a research protocol.
