In each issue, you will find a well-researched list of student scholarships, grants, and awards as well as a calendar of events and important dates, deadlines, etc. for that particular month. Typically, there is also a communication from both the Nursing Student Council and the Office of Student Financial Services in each issue, as well as a page of events from Millberry Programs and Services containing announcements of activities ranging from Cole Hall Cinema to Full Moon Kayaking Trips and many more.

NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Program
NIH encourages outstanding health professionals to pursue careers in biomedical, behavioral, social, and clinical research.
If you commit at least two years to conducting qualified research funded by a domestic nonprofit organization or
U.S. federal, state, or local government entity, NIH may repay up to $35,000 of your qualified student loan debt
per year, including most undergraduate, graduate, and medical school loans. Loan repayment benefits are in addition to the institutional salary you receive for your research.
LRP applications will be accepted annually from September 1 through November 15, 8:00 p.m. EST. Applications must be submitted electronically using the NIH Loan Repayment Program Website, www.lrp.nih.gov.

CALL FOR EDITORS!
Current School of Nursing students that have very good writing skills and/or previous experience editing course papers are needed to work as editors. The responsibilities include reviewing and editing course papers for fellow nursing students,
including international and domestic students. The pay is $15.59/hour;
all appointments are 20% time or less. If you are interested in working as an editor, please contact Jillian Lam at jillian.lam@ucsf.edu. Be sure to state “Student Editor” in the subject line of your email.
Online Financial Aid Services:
Students can access their 2011-12 UCSF Financial Aid Award online, and also see if they have any outstanding financial aid holds. The Student Financial Aid Office sends you an email as soon as your financial aid awards are ready for viewing online.
Fall Quarter Aid Disbursement:
Fall financial aid is scheduled to be disbursed by 9/22/11. Students must be considered registered (i.e., filed study lists) and have no registration holds before financial aid checks can be released.
Furthermore, please either “accept” or “decline” your financial aid awards online, as financial aid cannot be released if any award remains in “pending” status online.
All students should sign up for direct deposit so that financial aid can be deposited directly into your checking or saving account. If you have not signed up yet, please do so right now at:

Satisfactory Academic Requirements:
Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive financial aid. This is a federal requirement. Some of the basic requirements are:
The Student Financial Aid Office website (http://finaid.ucsf.edu) can also be accessed any time to obtain check disbursement dates, information on the financial aid process at UCSF, download SFSO forms, etc. Our office is located at Millberry Union West Tower, Room #MU-201W. Office hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students can also contact us by phone (415-476-4181) or email (finaid@ucsf.edu).
Computer Lab:
The School of Nursing Computer Lab, located in N-735, is open to all School of Nursing students. The lab currently contains 15 Dell computers. Laser printers are available for high quality black and white printing (for a fee).
Schedules for open lab hours, workshops and courses are posted on the lab door, as well as on the School of Nursing website (under "Current Students").
Instrument File:
Located in the Office of Research (Room N-337), this file contains a wealth of information on a variety of questionnaires and research instruments, with an index. You may browse the contents and make copies of files that may be useful to your project.
Welcome on behalf of the new officers of the Nursing Student Council! We hope that you all are well rested and rejuvenated for new or continuing studies in 2011-2012.
The general goal of the NSC is to serve as a liaison for the students within the School of Nursing, and to assist in the enrichment of the School of Nursing student body in any way possible. If you have concerns or need our support on an issue, please email us at nsc@nursing.ucsf.edu.
