Notify both OSA and the Office of Admissions and Registrar (OAR, see below) whenever your contact information changes (i.e., mailing address, telephone number, or email address).
Activate your account in the Registrar's Student Information System (SIS Student Portal)
once you receive your welcome letter and account information in the mail.
Activating Your SIS Student Portal Account
After you return your statement of intent to register, the Office of Admission and Registrar (OAR) will mail you a welcome letter that will
assign you an important login and password known as your SAA User ID and PIN. This login and password enables you to access a wide variety of electronic services at UCSF, including your SIS account and your UCSF email account.
Follow the instructions in the welcome letter to activate your SIS account, enter the student portal site, and access the site's services over the web.
Memorize your SAA User ID and PIN, or keep them handy but secure. You will need them frequently.

Register for Fall Quarter (mid-August to September).
About Registration
In mid-August, you will receive a registration packet from the Office of Admission and Registrar (OAR).
At UCSF, the term registering is used to denote formally enrolling in the University -- it does not refer to the process of signing up for classes (note: that sign-up process is named: "filing a study list").
Information about registration procedures and deadlines is available at Registration.
Three Steps for Each Quarter
There are 3 steps you must complete on-line and/or in person to fully complete quarterly registration processes:
After orientation (see below), file your study list, which is the list of classes you intend to personally take for the quarter. Study list filing is ordinarily done on-line (using the web) during the first week of classes.
Check for Holds
Be sure to check for holds before the registration window opens.
Preparing for Your Arrival
If you are in need of a place to live, start with the Campus Housing Office. Many students choose to live outside San Francisco in surrounding communities where rents can be lower.
(June through September)
Be sure to attend the New Student orientation. Orientation events are scheduled for the week when classes begin. While attending orientation, be sure to visit the police office (G-Level, Millberry Union West) to get your UCSF Photo ID. For example, the first day of classes for Fall Quarter 2005 (School of Nursing) is Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005
(September).
Learn how to get around (March to September).
Getting around UCSF. UCSF has several complexes of buildings distributed throughout the city of San Francisco. School of Nursing activites are sited at either the Laurel Heights building at 3333 California St. (at Walnut) near the Presidio; or at the original Parnassus Avenue campus near Golden Gate Park. Sociology, Health Policy, and Aging programs predominate at Laurel Heights.
At Parnassus, the School is housed in the School of Nursing Building located at 2 Koret Way. The most convenient way to enter the Nursing Building is to first enter the Clinical Sciences Building at 521 Parnassus and then use the archways interconnecting the second through seventh floors of the Clinical Sciences Building and the Nursing Building. The back of the Nursing building is accessible through a doorway on the fifth floor (owing to the steeply-sloping terrain), from Koret Way, the eastern extension of Kirkham St.
Classrooms are shared across many campus buildings, be sure you learn your way around the various campus buildings before classes begin. You will want to have a printed map with you of the campus buildings. Note that Cole Hall is a large auditorium inside the first floor of the Medical Sciences building, and Toland Hall is an auditorium within the first floor of the UC Hall Building at 533 Parnassus.
Getting around San Francisco. A good city map is a must. The public bus and streetcar system ("MUNI") has frequent service to the Parnassus Avenue Campus (and Medical Center).
MUNI passes and information are availble from the Campus Parking/Transportation Office. The Visitor's Bureau can help you get acquainted with our great city. The State of California has extensive information for visitors as well.
Learn where to find services, including the bookstore, police, recreation, schedules, etc. (March to September). Most of these locations have web sites; these sites can be found on our Current Students page. Add the CS page as a bookmark/favorite in your web browser. Many student-related service offices are physically located within the Millberry Union Building at 500 Parnassus Ave.
(March to September).
