Research

My program of research has focused on the organization of healthcare institutions and how that affects the work environment and, most importantly, the quality and safety of patient care. Early work looked at nurses job satisfaction and commitment to the organization. Several recent studies described the impact of nurse staffing levels on the quality of care; others have examined the working conditions and work environment effects on quality improvement processes and patient safety.
