Dr. Facione is involved in a program of research to exam high risk decision-making. She is a methodologist who has developed a variety of measurement tools related to health risk decisions, health care utilization, perceived access to health care and perceived prejudice in health care delivery. She leads a research team that has developed a series of instruments to measure critical thinking skills and habits of mind that are currently used widely by researchers and clinicians around the world. This paper presents a new methodology for analyzing authentic decision data by describing the thinking process involved the decision to delay diagnosis in women with self-discovered breast symptoms suggestive of breast cancer.

This measure of critical thinking disposition is now used internationally to measure personality characteristics associated with excellence in critical thinking ability.
