Dr. La Plante's interests include conceptual and definitional issues in health and disability, the demography and epidemiology of health and disability, and health and disability policy.
"Disability Statistics Rehabilitation Research & Training Center," funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), the study examines the demography and epidemiology of disability, cost of disability, employment, health services, AIDS-related disability, assistive technology, rehabilitation services and long term care services. The Center also conducts national forums, publishes reports and abstracts, and operates an information service.
"Affirmative Employment Goal for Federal Agencies," funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, is part of the Presidential Task Force on the Employment of Adults with Disabilities is " . . . to evaluate existing Federal programs to determine what changes, modifications, and innovations may be necessary to remove barriers to employment opportunities faced by adults with disabilities." The objective of this project is to conduct a research effort to derive a revised affirmative employment goal for federal civilian agencies for persons with targeted disabilities.
