Teaching

As Director of the Advanced Practice Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing specialty area (website) in the Master of Science program, I have been instrumental in the development and implementation of multiple courses in each specialty curriculum. My teaching focuses on neonatal and pediatric physiology and pathophysiology, and on infant growth and development for neonatal, pediatric and nurse midwifery graduate nursing students.

I am also involved in various clinical teaching opportunities and student clinical monitoring in many San Francisco Bay Area hospitals.

Clinical Focus

My clinical focus is on the development of clinical nursing excellence through quality improvement and safety in nursing practice in neonatal and pediatric clinical practice environments.

Research and Creative Activities

P.I., "Nursing Immunization Project" to evaluate nurses and nurse practitioner knowledge regarding immunizations and vaccine preventable infectious diseases, funded by the California Department of Health Services, Immunization Branch.

P.I., "North Coast Perinatal Access System" to advise and consult with institutions and providers on the health of pregnant women, the fetus and newborn, funded by the California Department of Health Services, Maternal Child Branch and part of the Regional Perinatal Programs of California.

Evaluator, "Preemie Project" to enhance collaborative early intervention services for preterm infants after discharge from Neonatal Intensive Care, funded by the Children and Families First Commission of San Mateo County.
