In 2004, The National Institute of Nursing Research (http://ninr.nih.gov/ninr/) launched a new pilot project, the Graduate Partnership Training Program in Biobehavioral Research, with a consortium of universities that includes Schools of Nursing at:
The goal of this Graduate Training Program is to develop partnerships between Schools of Nursing participating in the consortium and intramural NIH laboratories to provide cutting-edge research training for outstanding doctoral students in three focal areas of science:
Within these focal science areas, research opportunities in this program are diverse and range from basic science approaches to clinical trials and may be available within many NIH Institutes.
Graduate Scholars selected for this Graduate Partnership Training Program complete her/his coursework at their respective graduate partnership university (up to 2 years, depending on partnership university curriculum requirements).
Following completion of coursework, Graduate Scholars come to the NIH to begin research for their graduate dissertations in an intramural laboratory under the guidance of both an NIH intramural investigator and the partnership university mentor.
The NINR will support competitively selected Graduate Scholars for up to five years under an NINR/University Partnership Agreement. Funding for students includes support for tuition and fees, stipend, health insurance and a small travel allowance.
Successful completion of the program will lead to the PhD degree from the partnership university.
Prospective Graduate Scholars in the NINR Graduate Partnership Training Program in Nursing and Biobehavioral Research shall apply to the Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) at http://gpp.nih.gov, and separately and individually to each University Partner Graduate School the students wishes to be considered by for graduate admission.
To be admitted to the program, students must be accepted by both the NIH and a partnership university graduate school.
The annual deadline for NIH applications is April 15th (or following workday in years where April 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday).
