Kathryn Lee named Associate Dean of Research

Dean Dracup announced the appointment of Kathy Lee, RN, PhD, FAAN, in a message to staff and faculty, effective Jan. 1, 2010. Dr. Lee will be stepping down as the Livingston Chair for the Department of Family Health Care Nursing.

Sally Rankin named Associate Dean, International Programs

Dean Dracup announced the appointment of Sally Rankin, RN, PhD, FAAN, in a message to staff and faculty.  Dr. Rankin also immediately assumes the Directorship of the UCSF WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Clinical Training in Nursing.

ACNP Program Profiled by ADVANCE for Nurses

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specialty area in the Master's program is featured in a July 29, 2009 article.

Career Award for Dean Dracup

The world's largest specialty nursing association has honored UCSF School of Nursing Dean Kathleen Dracup, RN, DNSc, for four decades of "outstanding contributions" to critical care. Dracup is the recipient of the 2009 Marguerite Rodgers Kinney Award for a Distinguished Career, one of the highest honors conferred by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The organization represents more than 500,000 acute and critical-care nurses around the world.

Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Diversity Enhancement

Dean Dracup has announced the appointment of Dr. Shirley Manly-Lampkin as our new Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Diversity Enhancement, beginning in July 2009. Dr. Manly-Lampkin, RN, PhD, brings a long history of professional involvement in our local community that will help the School of Nursing in our continued diversity enhancement mission. The connections and good will she brings to the position will be essential to our maintaining and enhancing the relationship between the School of Nursing and the community.

Judy Martin-Holland Appointed Associate Dean

Dean Dracup announces the appointment of (former Assistant Dean) Judy Martin-Holland to Associate Dean of Academic Programs.

Monthly Evening Information Sessions

A monthly informational meeting for prospective masters and doctoral students is offered. These sessions introduce the school, answer questions, and explain the school's educational program options.

2009 Helen Nahm Lecture by Professor Linda Sarna

Dean Dracup has announced that on Friday, May 1st, 2009 at 10:00, Professor Linda Sarna, RN, DNSc, FAAN, will be the Twenty-Ninth Helen Nahm Lecturer.

A graduate of the UCSF doctoral program in nursing science and a professor at the UCLA School of Nursing, Dr. Sarna has been involved in shaping oncology nursing as a specialty for the past three decades.

Dr. Sarna's research program in quality of life and lung cancer compelled her to become more active in tobacco control. She has published numerous articles related to smoking as a women's health issue and her research on quality of life and lung cancer has had a special focus on women and lung cancer.

For her innovative research, Dr. Sarna is also being honored by the Oncology Nursing Society was selected her to be the 2009 Distinguished Researcher.
