A scholarship funding opportunity is available for incoming MEPN students ($10,000).
WORK COMMITMENT: Funding is provided by UCSF Medical Center in exchange for the student's commitment to work as a career clinical nurse employee for twenty-six months. The award is payable in two $5,000 installments and provides the opportunity to take a year's leave of absence from school after successful completion of the first year of the MEPN program, in order to work full-time as a salaried clinical nurse for UCSF Medical Center.
Beyond the initial year of service, scholarship students must continue to work part-time for the Medical Center during the specialty portion of their masters program (see schedule below).
The MEPN Program begins in June and the initial $5,000 award will be released to scholarship students nine months later in April, contingent on successful academic and clinical performance. A second and final award of $5,000 will be released approximately twenty-six months after employment at UCSF Medical Center begins. Receipt of this second award is contingent on successful fulfillment of employment requirements as a Clinical Nurse at the UCSF Medical Center. Financial awards are subject to taxation according to State and IRS regulations.
Following the stop-out year, scholarship recipients return to school to begin their Master's Specialty Area studies, and continue to work at the Medical Center at least 60% time. Full-time work is required whenever the student is not enrolled in school. Students are encouraged to continue employment beyond the twenty-six month period to further their clinical expertise as well as to share their skill/knowledge in clinical nurse leadership roles.
WHO IS QUALIFIED? Any applicant to the MEPN Program who is committed to working in a hospital setting. Eligibility is no longer restricted to specific specialties. But, of importance, the intent of the scholarship program is targeted towards students who see acute care nursing as an essential component of their nursing career.
HOW DO I APPLY? The UCSF Medical Center contacts those recently admitted to the MEPN program. For those interested and committed to working in acute care hospital settings, they will be screened during an interview arranged by the Medical Center.
The number of scholarship packages is limited, all eligible candidates cannot be guaranteed a funding package.
