MINORS  ·  MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAM

HIV/AIDS Nursing

Overview

The HIV/AIDS minor offers students an opportunity to study nursing care for medically underserved adults living with or at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. Five core courses reflecting the expertise of faculty and the many AIDS experts in the San Francisco Bay Area include HIV Positive Health: An Overview, HIV/AIDS Pharmacology, Population-based Chronic Illness Care, and Integrated Care in HIV/AIDS, HIV Positive Health Seminar.

Students are expected to take at least 9 units for the successful completion of a minor in this area, or may select individual courses offered on campus as discussed with the Advisor that relate to their major areas of interest. Students may also elect a residency with an HIV/AIDS emphasis.

Upon completing the minor, graduates are prepared to offer expertise and leadership in provision of HIV/AIDS care and services in health care settings. Graduates who complete this minor are eligible for national certification testing in HIV/AIDS by the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC).

Resources

These courses tap unique UCSF and San Francisco resources, including the expertise of the UCSF School of Nursing International Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Clinical Training in Nursing [see ctrhiv.htm, also see http://www.aidsnursingucsf.org].

Some students may qualify for a scholarship, review the following application packet for details.
